Coal mine accidents: Mining incident kills 1 in West Virginia

Officials and companies within the mining industry are constantly striving to increase workplace safety. Unfortunately, despite these efforts, coal mine accidents continue to be a concern for many individuals, and such incidents can be extremely dangerous and could leave a family facing the hardships of an untimely loss. A recent mining accident that took place in West Virginia has reportedly claimed the life of a 52-year-old man.

According to reports, the incident took place at the mine just before 4 a.m. on a recent Tuesday. The man was performing work on a continuous mining machine when, for unknown reasons, a block of coal suddenly came loose and struck him, causing him to suffer fatal injuries in the process. It is unclear if the man was working alone at the time or if other employees were nearby.

Although no further information was provided, officials have advised that an investigation into the accident is underway. Numerous individuals have released statements expressing sadness over the loss and offering condolences to his loved ones. While the emotional grief of such a loss can prove challenging enough as is, families who lose someone close under similar circumstances may also face financial concerns that can accompany a sudden loss of income and end-of-life expenses.

Families who lose loved ones in coal mine accidents could be entitled to relief through the workers' compensation insurance system. Since the process can be stressful and intimidating, one could consult with an experienced attorney for assistance on how best to proceed. An attorney in West Virginia can address all a client's concerns and assist in pursuing the full amount of compensation available through the necessary outlets.
