Philips CPAP Machine Litigation – Lung Injuries And Cancer

For millions of people who suffer from sleep apnea, CPAP machines are a crucial remedy to help curb its effects. Those who were prescribed a Philips CPAP machine, however, recently discovered that the device is prone to cause lung cancer and other serious injuries including those to the respiratory system.

In June 2021, Philips announced a recall of millions of these devices. The CPAP machines, Philips noted, use sound-abatement foam that degrades into carcinogenic particles. Users may inhale, ingest or absorb these particles into their lungs, increasing the risk for lung cancer and other ailments.

Philips machines account for about a 65% share of the market, with as many as 3 to 4 million devices in circulation.   If you are utilizing one of these devices, per recall instructions, stop using it immediately and contact your physician. If you are utilizing a ventilator device, do not stop using it, and immediately consult your doctor to discuss your next steps.

In both cases, If you believe you have been injured due to one of these devices, do not hesitate to contact Hill, Peterson, Carper, Bee & Deitzler, PLLC, to begin discussing your options.

Side Effects And Symptoms Of Injury From CPAP Machines

According to Philips, users of these CPAP devices may experience the following symptoms:

  • Respiratory problems
  • Inflammation
  • Eye, nose or skin irritation
  • Sinus infections
  • Asthma
  • Injuries to the liver, kidneys and other organs
  • Severe headaches
  • Chest pressure
  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • Other symptoms relating to lung cancer
  • Other Possible Injuries

In addition to these symptoms in their own bodies, users may also notice black particles in the CPAP machine itself. If you use one of these devices and have experienced any of the above issues, immediately consult a physician and attorney to discuss your next steps.

We Can Help You To Attempt To Secure Compensation

As with any serious injury, patients who use a Philips CPAP machine and experience adverse symptoms may be eligible for compensation. When you go to a doctor for your sleep apnea, the last thing you expect is to develop lung cancer or other serious injuries as a result of your treatment. If you have developed any of the above injuries from one of these devices, we will fight for full compensation to help you recover.

Our attorneys will seek a full recovery for expenses such as:

  • Medical treatment and rehabilitation
  • Lost wages and lost earning potential
  • Past and future pain and suffering
  • Loss of enjoyment of life

If appropriate, we will also fight for punitive damages to punish the company for their negligence and wrongdoing.
