Adams

Troy D. Adams graduated with distinction from Purdue University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree in aviation, soon thereafter lifting his professional career off the ground as a commercial airline pilot (1999-2009). During his ten-year tenure in commercial aviation, Troy logged thousands of flight hours in various aircraft to include the Embraer 145 regional jet, Saab 340 twin-engine turboprop, and Boeing 727-200 freighter. Throughout airline employment, Troy remained a proud union member of both the Airline Pilots Association and International Brotherhood of Teamsters – Airline Division.

Troy earned his Juris Doctorate degree from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 2012, as well as a Certificate in Dispute Resolution.  During his time at Moritz, Troy was President of the Truancy Mediation Program, provided mediation services in various state court and community-based capacities, and received recognition upon graduation as a Public Service Fellow.

Following law school, Troy set out in legal practice, first serving as law clerk to the Honorable William S. Thompson, Judge for the 25^th Judicial Circuit in Boone and Lincoln County, West Virginia (2012-2013).  Thereafter, Troy’s focus shifted to trial practice acting as Assistant Prosecuting Attorney of Boone County for three years (2013-2016), before assuming the role of Chief Public Defender for the 25^th Judicial Circuit (2016-2022), a platform from which he directed much attention to battling the opioid-driven drug epidemic that plagued many clients he represented. In that capacity, Troy was instrumental in establishing a Recovery Coach Program to holistically assist clients not only in legal matters, but also in treating their substance use disorder. While serving the public, both as prosecutor and defender, Troy tried numerous cases to jury verdict and advocated in oral argument before the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia. Troy’s service to the citizens of southern West Virginia continued with his appointment as Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia (2022-2024). In that role, Troy federally prosecuted violent drug and firearm crimes in addition to his designation as the District’s Program Coordinator for Project Safe Neighborhoods – a nationwide federal initiative promoting various community-based violent crime reduction strategies. Troy’s federal trial practice includes numerous prosecutions in the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia, appellate briefing and oral argument before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and Special Assignment as Assistant United States Attorney in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia and Court of Appeals. 

Troy joined the law firm of Hill, Peterson, Carper, Bee & Deitzler, PLLC as an associate in 2024. He is a member of the West Virginia Association of Justice and American Association of Justice. His focus is on helping and representing those persons seriously injured or families who have lost loved ones due to negligence of others.

Troy is married to his wife Laura Ellis Adams, a native of Madison, West Virginia and Scott High School graduate. Troy and Laura reside in South Charleston with their sons Henry and Harrison. Troy maintains an active lifestyle and particularly enjoys outdoor recreations to include snow skiing, hiking, hunting, golf, swimming, and boating. Troy also enjoys time spent maintaining and driving his 1970 Opel GT of which he completed a full restoration.
