Motor vehicle accidents involving drunk drivers can be disastrous

Driving under the influence of alcohol is never advisable, and such a decision can increase the odds of a potentially dangerous collision. Motor vehicle accidents that occur under similar circumstances can be devastating, perhaps even more so if a pedestrian is involved. A recent collision in West Virginia involving a drunk driver has reportedly left a 29-year-old pedestrian with serious injuries.

According to reports, the incident took place on a recent Saturday night when a man was struck by a vehicle while walking alongside the road. This propelled the man into another lane, where he was subsequently hit by another vehicle that was apparently unable to react in time to avoid a collision. The man reportedly suffered severe injuries in the process, and was likely rushed to a hospital for treatment soon thereafter.

Police initiated an investigation into the crash, which reportedly led them to discover that the driver who first struck the man was under the influence of alcohol. He or she is now facing felony charges in relation to the accident. With the extensive nature of medical expenses, the victim could be facing substantial financial hardships following the incident, and he may choose to pursue restitution through the civil justice system.

Individuals who suffer serious harm in motor vehicle accidents may be entitled to compensation through a personal injury claim. Since this can be complex, the victim could speak with an attorney for assistance in navigating the process. An attorney can thoroughly evaluate the situation and assist a client in West Virginia in pursuing the full amount of compensation deserved through a claim against the party deemed culpable.
