Wrongful death: Collision claims life of 34-year-old woman

Head-on collisions can be some of the most dangerous accidents a person might experience, each of which runs the risk of ending in serious injuries, or worse. Many families in West Virginia and elsewhere have lost someone close under similar circumstances, in some cases at the hands of a negligent driver. Those forced to endure the loss of a loved one due to negligence could choose to seek guidance in pursuing restitution through a wrongful death claim.

Just after 4 p.m. on a recent Monday in West Virginia, a 19-year-old man was approaching a curve in the road when he suddenly lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle then proceeded to cross into oncoming traffic and hit another head-on. Although the man did not suffer serious injuries in the process, the 34-year-old driver that he hit was pronounced dead at the scene.

Although an investigation is likely underway, it is unclear if any other factors might have contributed to the accident, other than slick driving conditions. Reacting in time to avoid a collision under similar conditions can be difficult at best, potentially leaving the victim to suffer the consequences. Drivers who fail to adjust to wet conditions could increase the chances of such a dangerous incident, and if the other party dies in the collision, surviving family members may wish to seek accountability through the civil justice system.

After suffering such a tragic and untimely loss, a family might wish to explore the available options for restitution, but the process can be complex. When facing a similar situation, a family could speak with an experienced attorney for guidance. An attorney can evaluate the incident in question and assist a client in West Virginia in pursuing the compensation to which he or she is entitled through a wrongful death claim against the party deemed at fault.
