West Virginia readers may be interested to note that Nissan, one of the largest automakers in the world, has initiated a massive recall of certain vehicles. The recall affects 3.18 million cars in the United States due to a safety issue that could increase the chance of injuries for drivers involved in motor vehicle accidents. According to Nissan, the airbags may not deploy properly because of an issue with the sensors.
In the vehicles, the passenger-side airbags are designed to deploy when there is a person in the seat. However, a defect with the sensors could prevent the airbags from properly deploying in a crash, even if that person is over the intended weight limit. According to Nissan, there have been three reported crashes that involved a malfunctioning airbag.
West Virginia readers will note that the recall affects certain Nissan vehicles, including Altima, Leaf, Maxima, Murano, Pathfinder, Sentra and Rogue. Also named in the recall are the vans NV200, Chevrolet City Express and NV Taxi, and some Infiniti vehicles are also recalled for the same airbag issue. Automakers are responsible for providing safe vehicles to consumers and are liable when negligence, errors or bad car parts compromise the well-being of customers.
