Motor vehicle accidents: Child hit by car while boarding the bus

For many kids in West Virginia and elsewhere, riding the bus is not only a way to get to school, but also a means for making friends. Since kids often get on and off a bus unattended, these vehicles are equipped with lights and indicators to inform other vehicles to stop and allow passage. Unfortunately, these indicators aren’t always obeyed, and motor vehicle accidents that take place under similar circumstances can end in disaster.

According to reports, a 14-year-old boy recently suffered serious injuries after he was hit by a car while attempting to get on the bus. Authorities say the incident took place at around 7:30 a.m. on a recent Tuesday as the bus was making its morning pickups. Police assert that the other vehicle was rendered inoperable in the crash, and upon being questioned by police, the driver claims that he didn’t see the bus prior to hitting the child.

Upon arriving at the scene, emergency responders treated the child before rushing him to a medical facility. He reportedly remains in the hospital while recovering from severe injuries. Police have advised that the driver who hit the child will be facing charges in relation to the crash, but they are awaiting footage from a dashboard camera before official charges are filed.

Victims who suffer serious harm in motor vehicle accidents may be entitled to pursue compensation through the civil justice system. However, even if the other party is deemed culpable, the process can still be challenging to navigate, and one could benefit from the advice of an attorney. An attorney in West Virginia can evaluate the incident, along with a client’s financial needs, and assist in pursuing the full amount of restitution entitled through a personal injury claim.
