West Virginia man files wrongful death suit against GlaxoSmith

Certain health conditions may lead people to take prescription medications. These prescription drugs are taken to alleviate or eliminate physical ailments that patients suffer from. However, some drugs can actually cause more harm than good, including injury and death. This may be true for one case in which a West Virginia man has finalized a wrongful death settlement with GlaxoSmithKline for the death of his wife.

According to reports, the man’s wife was taking a GlaxoSmithKline medication called Avandia. The man claims that his wife’s use of the medication caused her to experience a sudden death. The petition filed in regard to the settlement states that the company who manufactured the drug was negligent in causing or contributing to the wife’s death. The plaintiff and the defendant both negotiated and agreed to enter into a confidential agreement.

The plaintiff filed a petition to approve the wrongful death settlement. The defendant will compensate the plaintiff in the amount of $62,160. In light of the settlement, the agreement states that the agreement releases the defendant from any future legal claims in regard to the death.

Defective drugs can cause injury and sometimes death to patients. When patients experience an untimely death from the use of prescription drugs, it can leave surviving family members grieving their loss. West Virginia families who have experienced the loss of a loved one due to a defective drug may have the right to file wrongful death claims against the manufacturer. Doing so may bring about financial relief that is well-needed and deserved.
