Dangerous roads may lead to motor vehicle accidents

After the death of their loved one, a West Virginia family is asking for authorities to make the busy Corridor G safer. The man was struck from behind while he was riding his bicycle home from work. He suffered fatal injuries. When pedestrians and cyclists are on busy roads, motor vehicle accidents are an all too common occurrence.

At this point, West Virginia authorities have no plans to add a bike lane to this section of road in Charleston, but the family of the deceased have asked that this be done. Authorities have said that adding a bike lane would increase pedestrian and bike traffic, possible increasing the number of accidents. The family believes that efforts could have been made to make the road safer, possible preventing the deadly accident.

Despite the traffic on Corridor G, West Virginia authorities have acknowledged that cyclists have the right to be on the road. Drivers have the responsibility to share the road safely, yield to bikes when necessary and remain vigilant when there are cyclists or pedestrians nearby. The surviving family in this accident retain the right to pursue a wrongful death claim against any party or parties whose negligence caused or contributed to the tragedy.

Wrongful death compensation will not undo the deadly consequences of a bicycle versus car accident. Nevertheless, a successfully presented claim may help a family cope with the financial consequences of an unexpected death. Motor vehicle accidents can have life-altering consequences, but it is not necessary to face the aftermath of such a tragedy alone.
