Products liability issues from dangerous dental products

West Virginia readers may be surprised to know that it is possible that their dental products carry a risk for products liability issues. These common products hiding in medicine cabinets may actually place consumers in danger for certain health issues. Certain products, such as whitening toothpaste, may may pose a potential products liability issue.

One possible risk to consumers is due to the common ingredient triclosan, a component of toothpaste added to prevent the growth of plaque and bacteria. Studies have shown that Triclosan can cause problems with hormones. It can potentially affect the endocrine system, possibly causing fertility issues. In fact, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has listed the potential side effects of this product as “concerning.”

Alcohol is another possible risky ingredient. Many dental products contain alcohol that can dry out the mouth and can cause the bad breath and cavities the user is trying to avoid. Whitening toothpaste and rinses typically contain questionable products that can also pose an unnecessary risk. Some of these pastes and rinses can lead to the irreversible wearing of the tooth enamel. Consumers should be extremely cautious about choosing dental products and should fully research any questionable ingredients.

West Virginia readers know that dental health is an important key to maintaining overall health. When dental products include dangerous ingredients, not only does it pose a risk for products liability claims, it places people at a higher risk for health issues. A consumer who has suffered because of a product that is dangerous has the option to explore legal options for a civil claim. People should have the expectation that products they are using, especially ones with no warning labels, will not cause harm or damage if used as directed.
