Coal mine accidents: Crane-related incident proves fatal

For some individuals in West Virginia or elsewhere who work in the mining industry, operating in and around heavy duty machines could be an everyday requirement. While these machines might play an integral role in operations, they could also pose a significant threat to safety should an incident take place. Coal mine accidents involving heavy machines run a greater risk of leading to serious harm or worse. One person has died during a recent incident involving a crane at a mine in another state.

Authorities say they responded to the scene after receiving reports of a crane-related accident at a local mine. Upon arriving at the location, they reportedly found the crane to be partially submerged in water and the operator of the machine was nowhere in sight. While the details pertaining to how the incident might have occurred remain unclear, emergency responders say that efforts to locate the miner were initiated soon thereafter.

After efforts of searching the nearby area proved unsuccessful, authorities say that a team of divers was deployed to search underwater. They soon found the man’s body trapped underneath the crane. Efforts to recover his body reportedly remain underway and an investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.

Those who lose loved ones in fatal coal mine accidents may face a variety of hardships in life, and while the emotional pain may ease somewhat with time, the financial repercussions could linger on. Following the incident, the surviving family members of the deceased might be eligible for aid through the workers’ compensation insurance system, but they might be uncertain how best to navigate the process. Fortunately, there are attorneys who can examine the situation and assist a person in West Virginia in pursuing the full amount of compensation achievable through all applicable sources.
