Motor vehicle accidents: 1 dies in suspected drunk driving crash

It may come as no surprise that driving under the influence of alcohol can lead to unfortunate circumstances. Motor vehicle accidents involving drunk drivers can have disastrous consequences, as far too many of these incidents prove fatal. A collision involving a suspected drunk driver in West Virginia has reportedly left two children hospitalized and claimed the life of a 79-year-old woman.

The incident reportedly took place on a recent Sunday at around 7:30 p.m. when a pickup truck crossed into an oncoming lane and struck a nearby car head-on. According to authorities, there were two children in the truck at the time, and both were airlifted to the hospital soon thereafter. The driver of the car was also rushed to a medical facility for treatment, but she reportedly passed away later on.

According to reports, a third vehicle was also involved in the incident, but the occupants suffered only minor injuries in the process. Police have advised that speed may have been a contributing factor in the incident. Although the accident remains under investigation, the driver of the truck has reportedly been taken into custody and charged with drunk driving causing death.

Families who experience loss in motor vehicle accidents involving drunk drivers may choose to pursue restitution through civil court. However, even though criminal charges may be present, the process can still be complex, and a person might find it helpful to retain the services of a personal injury attorney for assistance. An attorney can inform a client in West Virginia of the available options for legal recourse and subsequently assist in pursuing the full amount of compensation achievable.
