Motor vehicle accidents: Passenger injured during police pursuit

Attempting to evade police is never a solid move, and can place the safety of everyone nearby in harm's way. Motor vehicle accidents that occur under similar circumstances can be extremely dangerous, potentially leaving passengers and bystanders to suffer harm in a situation over which they have no control. A woman was recently airlifted to the hospital following an accident involving a police chase in West Virginia.

Authorities claim to have come upon the vehicle just after 10 p.m. on a recent Saturday, and attempted to initiate a traffic stop after noticing that its headlights were off. However, they say the driver failed to adhere and began to flee, resulting in a pursuit that reached speeds in excess of 100 mph. At some point in the process, the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the median, and was arrested while attempting to flee on foot.

A passenger in the vehicle was subsequently airlifted to the hospital for treatment. Those who choose to ride as a passenger place their safety in the hands of others in the process. Passengers may have little to no control over the driver's actions, and they could be left to suffer the consequences of another party's negligent decisions.

Individuals who suffer serious injuries in motor vehicle accidents may face numerous hardships, physical and financial alike. When facing a similar situation, a person could be entitled to restitution, but the process can be stressful and intimidating, and seeking guidance could be beneficial. By speaking with a personal injury attorney, a client in West Virginia could obtain assistance in pursuing the full amount of compensation deserved through a claim against the party deemed at fault.
