Woman accuses medical facility of negligence and wrongful death

Individuals in West Virginia and across the country who are forced to undergo surgical procedures often rely on medical professionals to have adequate knowledge and skills to safely perform their operations. However, some may not be given this level of care, and negligence can do a great deal of harm to the health of a patient, or worse. A woman recently filed a lawsuit against a medical facility, claiming its negligence led to the wrongful death of her husband.

The lawsuit asserts that the woman’s husband was scheduled to undergo kidney removal surgery, during which he reportedly developed a saddle embolus. The man passed away just three days later from a pulmonary embolism. The woman claims that this condition was the result of negligence on the part of the facility, and is seeking damages accordingly.

Medical professionals generally undergo extensive training in their respective fields, perhaps for good reason. A patient who is facing a major procedure likely has enough on his or her mind without having to worry if he or she will receive an acceptable standard of care during this stressful period. Unfortunately, many families have been left in search of answers and/or justice following even routine procedures, especially when negligence is a contributing factor.

Families who lose a loved one under similar circumstances may often wish to pursue claims for compensation, but they might be uncertain where to begin. When facing such a tragedy, a family could consider speaking with an attorney for advice on the best course of action with which to proceed. An attorney in West Virginia can evaluate the situation and assist a client in pursuing restitution through a wrongful death claim against the party or parties deemed at fault.
