Motorcyclists face a higher risk of motor vehicle accidents

A recent accident in West Virginia serves as a reminder of the increased risk of accidents faced by motorcycle riders and passengers. An Oakland man recently passed away as a result of the injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident. As is the case with many motorcycle collisions, the trauma sustained in the accident was severe and life-threatening, despite medical attention and emergency care. In motor vehicle accidents involving motorcycles, the person on the bike is at a high risk for severe injury.

The accident occurred as the West Virginia biker was traveling along Route 46. A vehicle pulled out from another road, attempting to cross Route 46. The biker struck the vehicle as it was crossing traffic. At this point, the accident is still under investigation, and no charges have been filed.

Motorcycles are largely unprotected from the impact of a car accident. Even a minor fender bender can result in injuries that require medical attention and long-term care. When drivers are careless, reckless or distracted, even for just one moment, it can have devastating consequences for motorcycle riders. Drivers of larger vehicles have the responsibility to safely share the road with motorcycles, just as they do with other vehicles.

When a person is killed because of the negligent actions of another person, family members left behind may seek damages through a wrongful death claim. No amount of monetary relief can bring back a loved one, but financial compensation can cover medical costs and other losses associated with motor vehicle accidents. The family of the killed biker could learn more about legal options by seeking the help of an experienced personal injury attorney.
