Rezulin
Information
What
is Rezulin?
Rezulin is a prescription drug used to control Type II diabetes,
an adult diabetic condition. Its chemical name is troglitazone.
It was sold only as Rezulin in the United States.
Who
made it?
Rezulin was manufactured by Parke-Davis, a division of Warner-Lambert
Company.
When
did it go off the market?
Rezulin was withdrawn from the United States market on March 22,
2000.
Are
there other drugs to assist me now that it is off the market?
Yes. There are several other drugs utilized to control Type II diabetes
that remain on the market.
Why
was it taken off the market?
Rezulinwas removed from the market because it caused serious damage
to the liver.

What
harm does it do?
Rezulin caused severe damage to the livers of
individuals, resulting in moderate to severe liver damage in some,
and death in others.
What
kind of litigation and/or settlements are underway?
A lawsuit was filed on behalf of all individuals who took Rezulin
in the state of West Virginia in the Circuit Court of Raleigh County,
West Virginia, requesting that the Court certify a class for medical
monitoring. The West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals certified
a West Virginia medical monitoring class for all individuals who
ingested the drug. That medical monitoring matter is still pending
before the Circuit Court of Raleigh County. Settlements for all
individuals who were injured by the drug have now been completed.
What
is Hill, Peterson, Carper, Bee & Deitzler, P.L.L.C., doing in
Rezulin litigation at the present time?
We are a group of three firms in the state of West Virginia, who
joined together for the common benefit of our injured Rezulin clients.
Each firm has its own clients, and each client has an individual
claim for harm done by Rezulin. The purpose of this joint prosecution
alliance was to share the work and expenses of those aspects of
litigation which were common to all Rezulin cases. This spread the
cost of the litigation on the plaintiff's side over many cases,
and by doing so, it reduced the expenses in each individual's case.
All
of the cases that the alliance were responsible for in which injuries
could be documented, including death, have been or are in the process
of being settled and approved by the Circuit Court of Raleigh County.
