Wrongful death claim possible after young pedestrian killed

A West Virginia pedestrian was killed after a black truck left the road and hit the young woman as she was walking on a sidewalk. The girl was visiting friends at WVU when she was hit, later dying from the extensive trauma caused by the impact. Due to the circumstances of the crash, the family of the deceased may consider a wrongful death claim against the responsible driver.

After the collision, the driver of the truck left the scene of the accident. After a search, he was apprehended by law enforcement. Law enforcement stated that the truck approached the victim from behind, and it would have been impossible for her to have seen and avoided the oncoming danger. While it is not clear why the driver swerved from the road, he has been charged with felony hit-and-run charges. He may serve up to five years in prison if he is convicted.

A fatal hit-and-run accident has changed this family forever. A young girl is dead, and no amount of compensation can undo the damage, but the family may have certain legal options available. Those left behind could seek recompense for medical expenses and funeral costs.

Wrongful death compensation is intended to help a family cope with the financial losses associated with the unexpected death of a loved one. A West Virginia family may also recover punitive damages for the pain and suffering felt by a victim before his or her death. A grieving family would be wise to protect their rights by seeking a consultation with a compassionate, experienced personal injury lawyer.
