EPA C-8 Documents

Notice of Intent to Sue Dupont Under Citizen Suit Provisions of RCRA (Section 7002(a)(1)(B) of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976, as amended, 42 U.S.C. 6901, et seq) for PFOA (C8) Contamination of City of Parkersburg, West Virginia's Drinking Water Supply

Provisional Health Advisories for Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA) and Perfluorooctane Sulfonate (PFOS) (EPA, January 8, 2009)

This provisional health advisory recommends reduction of the C8 short term drinking water guideline to 0.4 ppb.  Although the short-term advisory is important, it does not address the risk of long-term exposure to C8. Because of the fact that C8 levels increase in the blood over time, the safe level of C8 in drinking water will necessarily be much lower for individuals who have anything other than short-term exposure.  Some experts say that a reasonable aspect is about 10 times lower, or about 0.04 ppb (the level set by the state of New Jersey).

EPA's C8 Advisory Does Not Address Long Term Health Risk (Charleston Gazette, 1/17/09)

Federal officials said Friday that a new C8 health advisory is not intended to address long-term exposure, drawing criticism that the action does nothing for Americans who have for years been drinking water contaminated with the toxic chemical.

EPA’s new policy on TSCA Section 8(e) submissions is being published in the Federal Register.
